Keene! Who knew such a vibrant, fun town would be situated in the Southwest corner of rural New Hampshire? Culturally rich with art, food, and entertainment, there is no shortage of things to do. And it’s all set in one of the most beautiful regions of the east coast; it’s the ultimate place to spend some relaxing time.
Keene’s History
Long before it became a college town, or even before the railway brought forth all of the bustling mills, the area now known as Keene was a part of the 13 original colonies. There are still sights found in the area that date to that formative time for the United States. Visit the Arts & History page to discover places to learn more about Keene’s place in America’s story.
The 19th century brought forth the railroad, and lots of industry with it. Up popped incredible homes and architecture still visible today. The downtown is made up of many beautiful brick mill buildings that have been re-purposed into retail or residential structures. Easy walking tours around town are one of the best ways to see these gems.
After the turn of the century, the introduction of Keene State College sealed the deal on a community forever focused on learning, culture, and let’s be honest, some great breweries and bars to boot.
