Electric Earth Concerts presents Beethoven Piano Trios, Op. 1. on Monday, August 22 at the Peterborough Town House at 7 pm. David Breitman, fortepiano, Jaap ter Linden, cello & Gabriel Richard, violin. A constellation of period-instrument stars takes on Beethoven’s first published opus, a set of trios that were designed to astound the public with their revolutionary approach and virtuoso technique: No. 1 in E-flat Major, No. 2 in G Major, No. 3 in C minor. David Breitman is Associate Professor of Historical Performance at Oberlin Conservatory where he teaches fortepiano and clavichord as well as courses in performance practice. He has recorded all of Beethoven’s violin sonatas with Elizabeth Wallfisch, the cello sonatas with Jaap ter Linden, the Mozart violin sonatas with Jean-François Rivest, as well as 4 CDs of vocal music with the late Sanford Sylvan, with whom he partnered in recitals for over 30 years. In a collaboration of a different sort, he is one of seven fortepianists on the 10-CD recording of the complete Beethoven piano sonata cycle on CLAVES. With his book, Piano-Playing Revisited: What Modern Players Can Learn from Period Instruments which appeared to critical acclaim in 2021, Breitman summarizes a lifetime of experience as a performer and teacher. Gabriel Richard has been First Violin at the Orchestre de la Garde Républicaine, Violin Soloist at the Opéra de Lyon, and First Violin at the Paris Orchestra, as well as First Violin of the Thymos String Quartet. He tours regularly in Japan, Korea, China, America, and Europe. With the Thymos Quartet, Richard has performed four times at the Paris International String Quartet Biennial and has toured Europe, the USA, Brazil, and Japan. The Quartet’s recording of Dvořák on the AVIE label won the Editor’s Choice Award from Gramophone magazine in 2012. The Washington Post described the Thymos Quartet’s performance at the Kennedy Center as “detailed down to the last atom and overflowing with human experience.” Gabriel Richard is Associate Research Professor in the Department of Romance Studies at Duke University, where he also teaches in the Music Department’s Chamber Music Program. Jaap ter Linden, viola da gamba and baroque cello, is a Dutch pioneer in the world of Early Music. Currently based in the United States, he is on the faculty of the Cleveland Institute of Music and Case Western Reserve University, where he directs ensembles and the baroque Orchestra. His extensive discography includes 2 recordings of the JS Bach suites for cello solo, the complete Mozart symphonies with the Mozart Akademie which he founded and conducted, as well as countless recordings with Musica Antiqua Cologne, the English Concert, and the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra. During his performance career he has collaborated with such well known musicians as Andrew Manze, Ton Koopman, Richard Egarr, Reinhard Goebel, and Gustav Leonhardt to name a few. As a solo and chamber music player and conductor, Ter Linden has toured throughout Europe, the United States, Australia, China, and Japan. Admission is $30 and is payable online at www.electricearthconcerts.org or cash at the door. Middle and high school students may attend for free. Jessica Moss has been flourishing as a solo artist since the release of her acclaimed debut albums Pools Of Light in 2017 and Entanglement in 2018 (Constellation Records). The violinist, composer and singer - best known for her fifteen-year tenure in political post-punk band Thee Silver Mt. Zion - has been captivating audiences with gritty, warmly expressive electronic and drone-inflected post-classical Minimalism (and sometimes Maximalism), accented by a distinctive melodic sensibility that channels Klezmer, Balkan and Middle Eastern tropes. Moss is also a founding member of avant-klezmer group Black Ox Orkestar and has worked extensively with Vic Chesnutt, Carla Bozulich, and more.
Ka Baird is a performer, composer, and sound designer based in New York City. They are known for their live solo performances which include extended vocal, breath and microphone techniques combined with electronics and psychoacoustic interplay of flutes and other woodwinds. They create a present tense sound with a vigorous delivery that seeks extreme release through physical exertion and psychic extension that "dances in the undefined margins of experimental sound, performance art, and humor."
They are one of the founding and continuing members of Spires That In The Sunset Rise founded in Chicago in 2001. Their debut solo album "Sapropelic Pycnic" was released through independent Chicago label Drag City in 2017. Their latest recording "Respires" was released through Brooklyn based imprint RVNG Intl in October 2019. Recent national and international engagements have included performances at the Unsound Festival (Krakow), Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago), MoMA PS1 (NYC), Issue Project Room (NYC), The Kitchen (NYC), The Institute of Contemporary Art (Philadelphia), TUSK Festival (Newcastle, UK), Incubate (Tilburg, Netherlands), KRAAK (Brussels, Belgium), Le Guess Who (Utrecht, Netherlands), and the Festival Of Endless Gratitude (Copenhagen,DK). They have done extended residencies at such institutions and collectives as Sonoscopia (Porto), Inkonst (Malmo), Experimental Sound Studio (Chicago), and Pioneer Works (Brooklyn). They were a 2020 recipient of the Foundation of Contemporary Art's Emergency Grant as well as a Jerome Foundation Artist-in-Residence at Roulette Intermedium in 2019.
Dr. Wright-Ivanova frequently performs solo recitals with a special focus on new music. She is on faculty at New England Conservatory’s Summer Institute for Contemporary Performance Practice, and has premiered over 125 works by living composers. She has performed both solo and collaborative new works in such venues as Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Berklee School of Music, MIT, The Harvard Club, Opera America (NY), Jordan Hall, Tanglewood’s Ozawa Hall, Old North Meeting House, and in the Clutch New Music Series in Austin TX and the NEXTET series in Las Vegas.
She has enjoyed working with composers such as Jo Kondo, Augusta Read Thomas, Steve Reich, Julian Anderson, Joan Tower, Daniel Brewbaker, Tristan Murail, Robert Beaser, Jennifer Bellor, Heather Gilligan, Daron Hagen, Paul Chihara, Virko Baley and more. She has worked with several ensembles in new music, including the Callithumpian Consort, MIVOS Quartet (NEON Festival), HUB New Music, Juventas New Music Ensemble, and at the Academie für Neue Musik with the Arditti Quartet. She also recorded a series of demos for Jonny Greenwood’s (Radiohead) soundtrack for the 2012 movie ‘The Master’ (Western LLC).
Doors are 7pm, music begins at 745pm. Masks are strongly encouraged.

Bollywood Movie Night also known as Vidhiism Events are pop-up movie fairs presented by Vidhi Salla, Vermont-based journalist and host of the international radio show, Vidhi’s Bollywood Jukebox. At Nova Arts on from 7pm onwards, Vidhi will be presenting the Bollywood film English Vinglish (2013). There will be Bollywood dance music before the screening and a brief cultural introduction to the film presented by Vidhi.
Audiences can shop for Vidhi’s pop-up stall of Indian handicrafts such as shawls, purses and silver jewelry sourced directly from the makers. Also available at the venue will be Indian snacks that audiences can enjoy before the screening and during the 10-minute intermission.
About the film:
English Vinglish, directed by Gauri Shinde, is the story of a homemaker named Shashi Godbole who secretly enrolls for a basic English-speaking class on her month-long trip to New York City. Shashi represents countless Indians who feel lost and under-confident in urban India due to their lack of proficiency in the English language. English Vinglish, the title alludes to the linguistic habit in India of attaching a rhyming made-up word to an existing one; for example coffee-vofee, sugar-vugar, course-vourse, talk-shalk, etc. Several classroom scenes in the film allude to the popular British sitcom from the 1970s, Mind Your Language. A major portion of the film is shot in New York City and audiences living in the US will be delighted to watch familiar locations in a Bollywood film. English Vinglish is a light-hearted film that connects with audiences across all age groups and ethnicities. The film has catchy upbeat music composed by contemporary music director Amit Trivedi. The primary language of the film is Hindi but the copy to be screened will have English subtitles.
About Vidhi Salla:
Vidhi Salla is a cultural arts curator, radio show host and journalist from Mumbai, India, now based in Vermont, USA. Through her internationally streaming radio show and movie events, Vidhi has cultivated an audience for Indian music and films around the world. Vidhi’s Bollywood Jukebox is a theme-based radio show in which she shares factual and anecdotal information as well as her unique ethnological perspective. Vidhi’s background as a journalist of Indian cinema and the performing arts lends an educational quality to the show. Vidhi’s Bollywood Jukebox is live every Thursday from 3-5pm on Brattleboro’s community radio station WVEW-LP and is available for streaming worldwide on wvew.org. Vidhi’s movie events present authentic, undiluted Indian culture to global audiences along with a memorable movie-watching experience.
Doors open at 7pm, the kitchen will be open until 8pm. The film will begin then.

The music of Little Mazarn is a cool float a few feet from the ground through a dimly lit, almost familiar forest. It is quieter than silence, big as everything, still but always moving. If you’ve ever had flying dreams, or an amazing night time bike ride on LSD, this might be a world for you. Chords are made up of notes; Little Mazarn gives them all their own moment. There are NO superfluous notes played here.
Lindsey’s kind and twisting voice ambles along over the spare sounds of Jeff Johnston’s saw bowing, Ralph White’s electric mbira wanderings, and her own slow banjo. Like DJ Screw, Bohren & Der Club of Gore, and anyone who chooses to walk instead of ride, Lindsey realizes the amazing power of slow… slow… slow music. Lindsey is at once a baby and a wise old man. Get in this canoe at dawn on some Texas river that remembers when Comanche slept under the stars.
—Thor Harris
Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, and currently based in Western Massachusetts, violinist, vocalist and songwriter Aisha Burns began playing violin when she was 10 years old, and has been touring and recording since 2006. Soon after moving to Austin in 2005, she gained her start with folk-rock outfit Alex Dupree and the Trapdoor Band, and joined the instrumental ensemble Balmorhea on violin in 2007. After years of secret singing, she released her solo debut Life in the Midwater in 2013. Called "twisting, ethereal...arresting" by Dazed Magazine, and praised for its "delicate intimacy" by NPR, Life in the Midwater explored mortality and relationships with candor and wisdom.
Her new album, Argonauta, is a collection of songs about her struggle with the grief of losing her mother, while also navigating a new relationship, and ultimately trying to discern the new normal for her life.
Doors are at 7pm, music will start at 8.

Naomi Westwater (she/they) is a queer, Black-multiracial singer-songwriter from Massachusetts. Western Mass indie-pop stalwarts Lost Film expanded into a 5 piece live band in 2019 following the release of the project's third album 'Zero Summer' with tour plans booked for Spring 2020. When the pandemic arrived, the main songwriter Jimmy Hewitt like most creatives quarantined at home writing and recording with optimism that life would go back to normal in the coming weeks. As the weeks turned into months, demo recordings sparked by a Roland707 sample pack giveaway online started to pile up. Hewitt remained positive (or naive) that the new collection of song ideas could soon be fleshed out with the band in the studio and left the drum machine backed demos neglected for months and shifted efforts to launch Relief Map Records at the start of 2021. Lost Film is set to release new single “Big Talk” which Stereogum highlighted as "a gem" likening to Beach Fossils and LVL UP. Texturized by not much more than an electric guitar, a drum machine and distorted synthesizers, “Big Talk” marks a return to minimalist, early aught's guitar-pop. The single wastes no time bursting into a soaring hook that lingers on the question of "is it where you are that keeps us apart or is it who you are?" Solitude can offer a silver lining of showing what we're able to live with and more importantly live without.
Ex-Temper creates pivoting, unpredictable, guitar-driven rock layered with catchy melodies and three-part vocal harmonies. Once described as "Fugazi meets the Andrews Sisters” and credited with playing "heavy, head-banging riffs,” their lyrics explore everything from heartbreak and obsession, to prominent social issues like police brutality, mass shootings, the inefficiency of white guilt, and mansplaining; as well as mysteries like the Green Children of Woolpit, and existential questions such as if an organ donor’s consciousness or memories can be transplanted into the recipient’s mind.
The band formed in 2015, when Kaliis Smith, Kate Dowd, and Lynn Simonds, who knew each other from playing in the Northampton, MA music scene with other bands, sought each other out with the intention of starting an all-female rock band that specialized in being kick-ass while maintaining steadfast musicality. Dana Wilde joined in 2016 and since then the band has played dozens of shows with venues ranging from basements, bars, all-ages community spaces, and stages like The Iron Horse (Northampton, MA), Gateway City Arts (Holyoke, MA), and The Stone Church (Brattleboro, VT). Ex-Temper has shared the stage with Kristin Hersh, Aye Nako, The Winterpills, Bent Knee, Vundabar, Spouse, and GRLwood.
After years of honing their craft, their self-titled EP was released on March 4, 2022. Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Mark Alan Miller at Sonelab Recording Studios in Easthampton, MA. This release follows up their first EP “Magnetic” from 2018, available on Bandcamp.
Old Moon, the solo project of Vermont based musician Tom Weir, creates music that blends lush textures with classic indie-pop songwriting - all with a distinct post-punk edge. Weir began releasing music under the Old Moon name in 2020 and has kept up a steady stream of solidly prolific releases over the last few years. His latest full length Cities of the Plain is full of chiming guitars, introspective lyrics, and moody atmosphere that tells a story of self improvement over its 9 tracks. Old Moon is set to release a new EP titled Under All Skies in September on Relief Map Records. This new release sees Weir put a heavier emphasis on songwriting and narrative, with a Springsteen-esque approach to storytelling woven throughout his blistering dream pop.
Doors at 7pm, music will start around 730!

Mobile since her birth in Singapore, composer, saxophonist, and artivist Caroline Davis’s music covers a wide range of styles, owed to her shifting environment as a child. As a leader, she has released six albums: Live Work & Play (2012), Doors: Chicago Storylines (2015), Heart Tonic (2018), Alula (2019), Anthems (2019), and Portals (2021). She won Downbeat’s Critic’s Poll Rising Star Alto-Saxophonist (2018) and was listed in Downbeat’s Readers Poll (2021). Her work has garnered much praise from NPR, The New York Times, The Wire, DownBeat, JazzTimes, and many international publications.
Davis is active as both a side-person and a leader in a diverse set of music communities (jazz, improvised music, modern classical, R&B, folk). Davis has worked with Lee Konitz, Angelica Sanchez, The Femme Jam, Matt Mitchell, Terry Riley, Miles Okazaki, Thana Alexa, and Billy Kaye, to name a few. Her collaborations include My Tree (with Ben Hoffmann) and Persona (with Rob Clearfield).
Awards and recognitions over the years have placed Caroline in various mentorship communities: IAJE’s Sisters in Jazz (2006), the Kennedy Center’s Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Program (2011), and Jen Shyu/Sara Serpa’s Mutual Mentorship Program (2020). Davis was the recipient of CMA's Performance Plus Grant (2021), NYFA's City Artist Corps Grant (2021), Jerome Hill Artist Fellowship (2019-2020); and she has participated in several residency programs, including fellow-in-residence at The Jazz Gallery (2022) and composer-in-residence at MacDowell (2019). Her compositional practice integrates music with the cognitive sciences, anatomical structures, and the brain, influenced by her Ph.D in Music Cognition. Davis is an advocate for social justice in the realm of gender (developed in a co-taught Jazz & Gender course at The New School) as well as in the abolitionist movement (Justice for Keith Lamar).
As an educator, Caroline brings her unique knowledge of music and psychology to her teaching. She has been on the faculty at Litchfield Jazz Camp for 15 years, Stanford Jazz Institute for 6 years, and an educator at The New School, Northwestern University, Harvard University, DePaul University, Columbia College, University of Texas at Arlington, and Jazz at Lincoln Center, to name a few.
Forbes Graham is a composer, musician, sound artist, and visual artist whose work explores themes of simultaneity, perceptibility, transformation and collage. He lives and works in Boston, Massachusetts.
Steve Cady lives in Keene, NH and performs with professional groups throughout New England. Highlights of Steve’s playing career as a bassist include performances with The “Rat Pack is Back” and “The Crooner and the Dame” Vegas Reviews, Joan Rivers Comedy Act, The Scott Mullett Trio, The Montreal Jazz Festival, Raylynmore Opera, Keene Chamber Orchestra, Keene Jazz Orchestra, Windham Orchestra, with The Opera Theatre of Weston, and at the Palace Theater in Manchester NH, where he is house bassist. Steve holds a BM and a BA from Keene State College, where he was a freshman talent-scholar and KSC Instrumentalist of the Year in 2002. Steve has been a performer in several world premiers by New Hampshire composer Ted Mann, and has completed his own major compositions for jazz ensemble, dance accompaniment and solo bass. Steve has been teaching music at Vermont Academy in Saxtons River, VT since 2002, where he directs Jazz and Chamber Ensembles, teaches Music Theory, Music Appreciation, and Electronic Music. In addition to teaching double-bass at The Brattleboro Music Center, Steve teaches bass methods at Keene State College, and teaches private electric and double-bass students in Keene. Steve enjoys studying improvisation, electronic music, mountain biking, and sailing with his wife.
Doors open at 7pm, and music will begin at 730.
