Stories of American History from the Tenement Museum in NYC. Three 30-minute episodes.
JIMMY(1870): During the potato famine, Jimmy McKenna and his family journey from Ireland to NYC only to face job discrimination. When Jimmy finally gets a job working on the Brooklyn Bridge he must dig deep to face his fears and find courage for his family.
MARCO & LORENZO (1888): Brothers Marco and Lorenzo have different philosophies on how to adapt to their new life in NYC. Lorenzo wants to become fully American and Marco wants to hold onto his Sicilian roots. It takes a record-shattering blizzard for the brothers to reconcile their differences and find their own way of being Sicilian American.
GOLDINE (1909): Goldine works at a garment factory filled with dangerous conditions. As a young Jewish immigrant this is the only job she can find and she just hopes to find a way out. When her opportunity to leave the factory comes during the same week as a strike for worker’s safety she is faced with an epic dilemma.
THEMES: Immigration, discrimination, perseverance, familial love, friendship, self-pride.
