Event Details

David William Ross is a guitarist with a wide range and unique approach. Trained in both classical and jazz guitar, Ross works regularly in both genres. An advocate of new music, he has worked closely with composers from around the world in creating new works for the guitar. His playing appears frequently on the Ravello and Navona labels and he is currently recording a second volume of work by Swiss composer Georges Raillard to be released in 2022. Ross’ original compositions draw deeply from the New York School of the 1950s-60s, particularly the work of Morton Feldman and Earle Brown, combining an exploratory aesthetic with the drive and visceral feeling of Post-Bop and modern jazz. 23 Ensemble is a dynamic, effusive collective of musicians creating auditory environments in which to skry the aethyrs for new sonic possibilities. We have been an evolving group of musicians since our first “large ensemble” shows in 2008. The seed of the idea was gestated by drummer Andy Kivela (Sisters and Brothers/Bourgeois Homes/The Impenitents) as a way to explore a more fully improvised based musical approach. As the idea evolved and grew, the group was trimmed down to an ever shifting base quartet. Andy welcomed guitar wunderkind Adam Bosse (Fred Cracklin) to the fold in 2011, saxophone colossus Andy Allen (Hollow Deck/Creative Healing) in 2014, and just recently, bass wizard Nat Baldwin (Dirty Projectors/solo) in 2021. We are honored to be able to present new, free improvised music for your listening enjoyment.

Masks are required when entering and moving about the space.
