Event Details

Tim Eriksen is internationally known as one of the great living exponents of traditional American folksong and an innovative multi-instrumentalist (banjo, fiddle, guitar, fretless bajo sexto) whose solo acoustic performances push the boundaries of minimalism while tracing human experience from the gently humorous to the exuberantly joyful and utterly devastating. His background and ongoing collaborations cover a dizzying array of genres: hardcore punk, “shapenote,” Bosnian folk-pop, Carnatic classical, experimental electro-acoustic and symphonic music to name a few. With a PhD in ethnomusicology, Eriksen has taught courses in American and World Music at Dartmouth College, Amherst College and the University of Minnesota and published scholarship on early New England music in connection to 19th century Black culture, abolitionism, apocalyptic theology and the birth of science fiction. As frontman of the legendary folk-noise outfit Cordelia’s Dad, Eriksen is the only singer/songwriter to have shared a stage with both Kurt Cobain and Doc Watson.

Known for extensive contributions to films including the Oscar winning “Cold Mountain” his current projects include writing songs for Alison Krauss and working with Afro Cuban pianist Omar Sosa to record a follow-up to their twice Grammy nominated 2009 collaboration “Across the Divide.”

Laurel Premo is known for her rhythmically deep and rapt delivery of roots music, voiced on finger-style electric guitar, lap steel, and voice. The glowing heartiness and rich grit of her sound reveal a love of and complete submersion in heavy archaic roots—from the crossover of old-time and blues American traditions to darker Nordic sounds. She is a Michigan-based artist who has been writing, arranging, and touring since 2009 with vocal and instrumental roots acts, and is internationally known from her duo Red Tail Ring. Her 2021 solo release, ‘Golden Loam’, continues Laurel’s weaving of old wild and soundscape, with ruminant power, a masterful use of space, and dynamic waves of warm, gritty sustain. “Subtle but dazzling and rich in texture. Watching a live performance is pure hypnosis.” – MTV

Charlie Chronopoulos returns to Nova with his signature dark folk tales of the post-industrial wasteland of Middlesex County, delivered always with the same glowing hope it took to root for the Sox for one hundred years.

This show is all ages. Doors are at 7pm, and music will begin at 8. Seating is first come first served.
