The New Leaf Gallery is a collaboration by Matt Brown & Taryn Fisher concentrating on the sharing of contemporary handmade prints. We manage things from a newly renovated location at 11 Roxbury St. in Keene, NH.
Though printmaking uses the same vocabulary of all 2D art (shape, color, pattern, space, and line), making prints often involves more attention to process than other art forms. Makers of handmade prints employ a third matrix (a plate, screen, sheet of linoleum, set of carved woodblocks) to make their imagery. Because prints exist in multiples, opportunities arise for the work to “talk back” and play formative roles in its own creation. Often printmakers enlist the help of an audience, an opportunity facilitated by the fact prints live out their lives in multiples, and editions of prints are often completed in batches over the course of months or years.
