The Apple Hill String Quartet presents an eclectic, exciting program of works from Brahms to Mexican and American composers. The evening begins with Sonoralia by Emmanuel Arias y Luna, a piece that will have you humming and dancing in your seat. Next, Silvestre Revueltas also incorporated Mexican folk tunes and rhythms in his music, but the sound world of his String Quartet No. 1 couldn’t be more different from Arias y Luna. You’ll want to experience this amazing pairing. The concert then travels ahead to the 21st century with American composer Tanner Porter’s Switchback. Tanner writes of her piece: “the title refers to the zigzagging roads that take a traveler bit by bit up a mountainside, and the plateaus that allow for continuously changing views of the scenery below.” The evening concludes with the king of imposter syndrome, Johannes Brahms. If only he could have known that his dramatic and lush String Quartet in C Minor would be a perennial favorite with performers and audiences alike.
Apple Hill exists to perform, teach, and broaden the appreciation of chamber music— cultivating connection and understanding among people of diverse backgrounds, cultures, playing levels, and ages through music performance and education centered around the values of acceptance, inclusivity, creative expression, and encouragement.
Doors are at 7pm, music begins at 8. Seating is first come first served.
