FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 7 March 2022 Contact: Mindy Cambiar, E.D., Hundred Nights, 603-352-5197, [email protected] 'Breaking Barriers' Demolition Party Slated for Saturday, March 26 Hundred Nights Inc. opened its doors in January 2010 as an emergency cold weather shelter in Keene. Twelve years later, the organization is ready to build a facility that will place shelter-beds and supportive services, including case management, under one roof. The purchase of the former Tom's Auto property, located at 122-124 Water Street, paves the way for next steps beginning with a community demolition event on Saturday, March 26 from 11am-3pm. Rain date is Sunday, March 27. ‘Breaking Barriers’ will invite the community to participate in a celebration of the organization's recent accomplishment. Food trucks, music, and games for children, including a hi-striker, will be on site. Adults will be able to swing a hammer to help demolish the existing structure; safety equipment will be provided. Recognition of capital campaign milestones to date will occur and staff will be available to discuss campaign details with community members. At this time, 80% of a $5.5 million capital campaign has been achieved, leaving the organization with the need to raise the final $1 million. The goal of the campaign is to offer safe, accessible, appropriate, and adequate emergency shelter, including intentional spaces where effective case management services can be delivered to help clients regain stability and get back on their feet. Construction is slated to begin this spring. Mindy Cambiar, Executive Director of Hundred Nights, is encouraged by the tremendous outpouring of support for the Capital Campaign. “Over the last twelve months, the community has made an astonishing commitment to raise a significant portion of our campaign goal. At the same time, daily shelter needs have increased 150%. We remain grateful for the partnerships of many committed individuals and businesses who believe in our work by breaking down the barriers that exist for the homeless population of Cheshire County.” Board Chair Jan Peterson is looking forward to the upcoming family-friendly celebration. “We invite the community to join us for a smashing good time! Our journey continues with this next phase of providing warmth and safety for our guests, and we look forward to continuing the conversation as long as the need exists.” The mission of Hundred Nights, Inc. is to provide shelter and crisis related services to those at risk of or experiencing homelessness year-round.
