Spring Plant Party and Plant Swap

Event Details

It’s spring and you’ve decided to grow fresh vegetables at home. Yay! But a garden on the ground is too much. You’ve got a large pot or a window box to grow in and, jeez, reasonably-priced vegetable plants are sold in packs of four and six -too many!
Keene Public Library & Healthy Home Habitats invite you to a free, veggie plant swap. Bring your extra vegetable and flower starts to swap for someone else’s. They may have a different vegetable that you want to grow. But they also needed just one or two! Or maybe you’ve grown your own vegetable starts and realized you have too many! Bring these to share so we don’t let these precious resources go to waste.
This one-hour workshop will be offered in person at Keene Public Library's Heberton Hall and possibly (staff dependent) through ZOOM as well for those who can’t attend but want to join in on the fun, Saturday, May 27th at 1 PM. Michele Chalice, Environmental Landscape Designer and owner of Keene’s own “Healthy Home Habitats,” will join Gail Zachariah, Engagement, Outreach, and Youth Services, Division Head & Social Media Administrator, and architect of the Keene Garden Lending Library to share resources, smiles, and vegetable growing knowledge with all those interested.
Bring your extra vegetable and flower starts to share and swap! Or for those just starting, bring your empty and clean, plastic salad containers. We’ll provide seed starting soil, dixie cups, and seeds to have outside and start now!
Come join the fun, bring your friends and family.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION - KPL SEED & TOOL LENDING LIBRARY Want to start gardening but don't have the right tools? Ready to tackle a big yard project and need something unusual? The Tool Library can help! Our tool-lending library is in the Kingsbury Makerspace and is open to all Cheshire County residents. No library card is necessary, but borrowers must fill out and sign the Keene Public Library Tool Borrower Responsibility Agreement. We provide, in addition to seeds, education, and resources about growing and saving seeds and organic gardening. We hope that seed library patrons will return some seeds from their harvest to make the library self-sustaining. You can reserve seeds and we will let you know when you can pick them up at the checkout desk or you can stop by and choose some from the collection in the Atrium. Keene Public Library’s Seed Library is open to everyone in the community at no charge. No library card is necessary to take seeds. But you will have to pick up your seeds at the library, which is located at 60 Winter Street. Seed starting kits, microgreen kits, and seed sprouting kits can be reserved as well. To make a reservation or for information, please call the library at 603-352-0157 or email [email protected].
